About

I am Nahid Hossain, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at United International University (UIU), Bangladesh, where I additionally serve as the Undergraduate Program Coordinator. I previously held the position of Lecturer in the same department, and before joining UIU I worked as a Software Engineer in the AI Division at eGeneration, Bangladesh.

My research lies at the intersection of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs), and computational linguistics. I focus on language understanding and generation, model efficiency and optimization, and the development of language technologies and resources for low-resource languages such as Bangla.

Packages, pretrained models, corpora, datasets, and tutorials I build and maintain for the NLP community, primarily hosted on Hugging Face.

Packages
bangla LaTeX package Typeset Bengali text inside English LaTeX documents without fighting the encoding. bangla-python PyPI package Utilities to speed up Bengali text handling and preprocessing in Python projects.
Pretrained Models
BnLM-F-135m 135M params High-performance Bangla pretrained language model featuring a custom 120K-vocabulary WordPiece tokenizer for state-of-the-art downstream NLP tasks, pretrained on our B-CORE corpus using the masked language modeling (MLM) objective and designed for NLP tasks with tight compute and latency budgets. This is the base model and should be fine-tuned for your downstream task. BnLM-C-66m 66M params Dynamite comes in small packages! A compact Bangla pretrained language model featuring a custom 30.5K-vocabulary WordPiece tokenizer, pretrained on our B-CORE corpus using the masked language modeling (MLM) objective and designed for NLP tasks with tight compute and latency budgets. This is the base model and should be fine-tuned for your downstream task.
Corpus
B-CORE 16.5M docs B-CORE is currently the largest Bangla monolingual corpus, containing 4.32B tokens of curated Bangla text (52 GB uncompressed, 20.8 GB compressed), built through quality filtering and cross-corpus deduplication. It was used to pretrain both BnLM models.
Datasets

The 7 BLUGE tasks form one balanced Bangla-understanding benchmark; BanglaGEC and CMLA11 are standalone.

CMLA11 110k Long-article classification across 11 categories, for resource-constrained text-classification research. BLUGE-TSC 22.3k Ternary Sentiment classification: neutral, positive, negative. BLUGE-BLI 128k Natural Language Inference: entailment, neutral, contradiction. BLUGE-NER 14.5k Named Entity Recognition: person, organization, location, object. BLUGE-NCC 62.3k News articles across 7 topic categories. BLUGE-BCLAP 131k Grammatical acceptability, paired ungrammatical / correct sentences. BLUGE-BCLAU 128k Same acceptability task, mutually exclusive non-paired samples. BLUGE-WSTP 49.5k Multiple-choice section-title prediction from Bangla Wikipedia. BanglaGEC 7.07M Largest parallel corpus for Bangla grammatical error correction, 10 error types.
